Sayyiduna Malik bin Rabi'ah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that he heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "O Allah! Forgive those who shave their heads. O Allah! Forgive those who shave their heads." One of those present said: "And those who shorten their hair as well?" The third time, or perhaps the fourth, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "And those who shorten their hair as well (forgive them)." Then he (Malik) said: That day I had my head shaved, and I would not be pleased to receive red camels in exchange for having shaved my head (the narrator is unsure, or perhaps the words are:) or something of great value.
Imam Ahmad and Imam al-Tabarani recorded it, the latter in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its chain is hasan (good).
