Sayyiduna al-Hirmas bin Ziyad (may Allah be pleased with him) states: I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while I was riding behind my father. On the day of sacrifice he was on his she-camel al-Adba', and the people were around him. I asked my father: "What is the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saying?" My father said: "He is saying: 'Stone (the Jamarat) with pebbles small enough to be held between the fingers.'"
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
