Sayyiduna Harmalah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him), who is Abu Abd al-Rahman, states: During the Farewell Hajj I was riding behind my paternal uncle, Sayyiduna Sinan bin Sannah (may Allah be pleased with him). When we were standing at Arafat, I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with one of his fingers placed upon the other. I asked my uncle: "What is the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saying?" He said: "He is saying: 'Stone (the Jamrah) with pebbles small enough to be held between the fingers.'"
Ahmad, al-Bazzar and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
