Sayyiduna Ya'la bin Umayyah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I performed tawaf with Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him). When I was at the corner which is next to the door, on the side of the Black Stone, I took hold of his hand so that he would touch it. He said: "Did you not perform tawaf with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?" I replied: "Yes!" He said: "Did you see the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) touching it?" I said: "No!" He said: "Then pass on from it, for in the way of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) there is the best example for you."
Imam Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih. He also recorded it with another chain, which contains a man whose name has not been mentioned.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat.
