Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 5448

Hasan al-Basri narrates: Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) intended to forbid Hajj al-Tamattu', so Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: "You do not have the right to do that, for we performed Hajj al-Tamattu' with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)." So Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) refrained from (that intention).
Imam Ahmad recorded it. The narrator al-Hasan did not hear from Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) nor from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). The narrators of this narration are the narrators of the Sahih.
