Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 5258

Uthman bin Sulayman reports this account from his paternal grandmother: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: I want to take part in jihad in the path of Allah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Shall I not guide you to a jihad in which there is no fighting?" I said: Yes indeed! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Hajj to the House (of Allah)."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator, al-Walid bin Abi Thawr, whom Imam Abu Zur'ah and a group declared da'if (weak), while Sharik commended him.
