بَابٌ فِي فَضْلِ الْعُلَمَاءِ وَمُجَالَسَتِهِمْ .

Majma al-Zawaid 518 — The virtue of scholars and sitting with them
عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ لُقْمَانَ قَالَ لِابْنِهِ : يَا بُنَيَّ ، عَلَيْكَ بِمُجَالَسَةِ الْعُلَمَاءِ ، وَاسْمَعْ كَلَامَ الْحُكَمَاءِ ، فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحْيِي الْقَلْبَ الْمَيِّتَ بِنُورِ الْحِكْمَةِ كَمَا يُحْيِي الْأَرْضَ الْمَيِّتَةَ بِوَابِلِ الْمَطَرِ " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ ، وَفِيهِ عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ زَحْرٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ، وَكِلَاهُمَا ضَعِيفٌ لَا يُحْتَجُّ بِهِ .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ ، وَفِيهِ عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ زَحْرٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ، وَكِلَاهُمَا ضَعِيفٌ لَا يُحْتَجُّ بِهِ .
Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Luqman said to his son: 'O my son! Make it binding on yourself to sit in the company of the scholars, and listen to the words of the wise (that is, intelligent and experienced people), for Allah Almighty gives life to a dead heart through the light of wisdom just as He gives life to barren land through rain.'"
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain states that Ubaydullah bin Zahr narrated it from Ali bin Yazid, and both of these narrators are da'if (weak); they are not to be used as evidence.
