Abd al-Aziz bin Sa'id narrates this statement of his father: Sayyiduna Uthman bin Matar (may Allah be pleased with him), who had the honour of being a Companion, narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Rajab is a great month in which Allah Almighty multiplies the reward of good deeds. Whoever fasts one day of Rajab, it is as if he fasted for a year. Whoever fasts seven days of it, all seven gates of Hell are closed to him. Whoever fasts eight days of it, all eight gates of Paradise are opened for him. Whoever fasts ten days of it, Allah Almighty will grant him whatever he asks of Him. Whoever fasts fifteen days of it, a caller announces in the heaven: 'Your past sins have been forgiven, so now begin your deeds anew.' Whoever does more, Allah Almighty grants him more reward. In the month of Rajab, Allah Almighty made Sayyiduna Nuh (peace be upon him) board the ark. He fasted in Rajab and commanded his companions to fast as well. Their ark sailed on for seven months, and then on the day of Ashura it came to rest on Mount Judi. So Sayyiduna Nuh (peace be upon him), his companions and the animals fasted in gratitude to Allah Almighty. On the day of Ashura, Allah Almighty split the sea for the Children of Israel. On the day of Ashura, Allah Almighty accepted the repentance of Sayyiduna Adam (peace be upon him) and of the people of the city of Sayyiduna Yunus (peace be upon him). And on this very day Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was born."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator, Abd al-Ghafur, who is matruk (abandoned).
