Majma al-Zawaid 5111 — Fasting on Ashura

Sayyiduna Hind bin Asma' al-Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me to my people, the tribe of Aslam, and said: "Instruct your people to fast on this day, that is, the day of Ashura, and whoever of them you find has eaten something in the early part of the day should complete (the fast) until the last part of the day."
Ahmad and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir recorded it. The narrators of Ahmad are thiqat (trustworthy).
