Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Has anyone among you begun this day fasting?" The people remained silent. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah, I have. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Has anyone among you visited a sick person today? The people remained silent. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah, I have. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Has anyone among you given any charity today? The people remained silent. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah, I have. At this the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) smiled, until the smile of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) grew broad. Then he said: "By the One in whose Hand is my soul, no one but a believer does all these deeds in a single day, and he will enter Paradise because of them."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains Ubaydullah bin Zahr; he has been criticised, and he has also been declared trustworthy. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: A hadith similar to this will come later in the chapter on fasting on Friday, if Allah wills.
