Imam al-Tabarani recorded in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him): On the occasion of the Battle of Hunayn, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set out after eighteen days of Ramadan had passed, and he was fasting. The people passed by a river and began looking at it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked them: Do you want to drink? The people said: Shall we drink while you are fasting? So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called for a vessel and drank (water). When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had finished with the Battle of Hunayn and the Battle of Ta'if, he came to al-Ji'ranah; there he distributed the spoils of war, and from there he performed Umrah.
Imam Ahmad recorded this narration. The narrators of Imam Ahmad are the narrators of the Sahih, and among the narrators of Imam al-Tabarani is Sa'id bin Bashir, about whom there is criticism.
