وَعَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَ : " مَا عُبِدَ اللَّهُ بِشَيْءٍ أَفْضَلَ مِنْ فِقْهٍ فِي دِينٍ ، وَلَفَقِيهٌ وَاحِدٌ أَشَدُّ عَلَى الشَّيْطَانِ مِنْ أَلْفِ عَابِدٍ ، وَلِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عِمَادٌ ، وَعِمَادُ هَذَا الدِّينِ الْفِقْهُ " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ ، وَفِيهِ يَزِيدُ بْنُ عِيَاضٍ ، وَهُوَ كَذَّابٌ .

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Allah Almighty has not been worshipped by anything more excellent than understanding of the religion. A single scholar is harder upon Satan than a thousand worshippers. Everything has a pillar, and the pillar of this religion is understanding (that is, knowledge of the religion)."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains Yazid bin Iyad, who is kadhdhab (a liar).
