Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 4832

Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) states: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would make the intention to fast during the night (that is, before true dawn). Then the next morning he would ask: "Do you have anything (to eat)?" The household would say: "We have nothing. Have you not kept a (voluntary) fast today?"
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator, Muhammad bin Ubaydullah al-Arzami, who is da'if (weak).
