Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you see the new crescent, fast, and when you see it, celebrate Eid al-Fitr; and if it is clouded over for you, complete the count of thirty."
Ahmad and Abu Ya'la recorded it, and al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. The narrators of Ahmad are the narrators of the Sahih.
