Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet of Allah narrated a hadith, and since we came to know Islam we had not been as happy about anything as we were about it. He said: "The believer is rewarded even for removing something harmful from the road, or guiding someone on the way, or making clear the meaning of someone who cannot speak properly, or giving milk as a gift; so much so that he is even rewarded for goods which he had kept in a pocket inside his garment, and then when he feels for them, his hand does not find them (that is, they have been lost)."
Imam Abu Ya'la, Imam al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and Imam al-Bazzar recorded this narration, and he (al-Bazzar) added these words: "A man is even rewarded for having relations with his wife; so much so that he is even rewarded for goods that are at one edge of his garment: he feels for them, (having tied) a knot in their place, or he said something similar (and then does not find the goods), so his heart is troubled on that account; then even if Allah Almighty returns the goods to him, He records for him the reward of that (distress)."
The chain of this narration contains a narrator, al-Minhal bin Khalifah, whom Abu Hatim, Imam Abu Dawud and Imam al-Bazzar declared "thiqah (trustworthy)", though he has been criticised.
