Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went out on the day of Eid al-Adha, or perhaps Eid al-Fitr. He led the prayer, and when he had finished the prayer he exhorted and admonished the people and commanded them to give charity. He said: O people! Give charity. Then he turned from there and passed by the women. He said to them: Give charity, for I have seen that the majority of the people of Hell are from you (that is, women). The women asked: O Messenger of Allah! What is the reason for that? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Because you curse frequently and are ungrateful to your husbands. I have not seen any beings deficient in intellect and religion who carry away the heart of a sensible man more quickly than any one of you, O assembly of women! The women said: O Messenger of Allah! What is the deficiency in a woman's intellect and religion? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Is not the testimony of a woman half the testimony of a man? That is due to the deficiency in her intellect. Is it not that when a woman menstruates she does not pray? They said: Yes. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: That is the deficiency in her religion. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) left from there until he reached his house. The wife of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) came to him and asked permission to come in. It was said: O Messenger of Allah! Sayyidah Zaynab (may Allah be pleased with her) is asking permission to come in. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Which Zaynab? It was said: The wife of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Give her permission. He gave her permission, and that woman said: O Prophet of Allah! Today you commanded us to give charity. I had some jewellery, and I intended to give it in charity, but Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) held that he and his children are more entitled than anyone for me to give it to them in charity. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Ibn Mas'ud has spoken the truth. Your husband and your children are more entitled than anyone for you to give it to them in charity."
Al-Bazzar recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
