Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) relates: When this verse was revealed: "The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like that of a grain which grows seven ears, in each ear a hundred grains," the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O my Lord! Grant my Ummah more." Then this verse was revealed: "Whoever gives Allah a goodly loan, Allah will multiply it for him many times over." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed: O my Lord! Grant my Ummah more. Then this verse was revealed: "Indeed, the patient will be given their reward without measure."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains a narrator, Isa bin al-Musayyab, and he is da'if (weak).
