Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 4542

Sayyiduna Imran (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) report this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "The upper hand is better than the lower hand, and begin your spending with the one you support: your mother and your father, and then your nearest relatives, degree by degree."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
