Sayyiduna Abu Umayr (may Allah be pleased with him), or perhaps Sayyiduna Abu Umayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), narrates: Once we were sitting with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when a man brought a tray with dates on it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "What is this? Is it a gift or charity?" He said: "It is charity." The narrator says: So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed it on to the people. At that time Sayyiduna Imam Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) (who was a child then) was crawling on his hands; he took a date and put it in his mouth. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) put his finger into the child's mouth, took out the date and put it aside, then he said: "Indeed we, that is, the family of Muhammad, charity is not lawful for us."
Ahmad and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam recorded it, though Ahmad named the narrator Sayyiduna Usayd bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), while al-Tabarani named him Rushayd bin Malik. Its chain contains a narrator, Hafsah bint Talq; no one except Mu'arrif bin Wasil narrated from this woman, and no one has declared her trustworthy.
