Jahm bin Fadalah narrates: I entered the mosque of Damascus, and there was Sayyiduna Abu Umamah al-Bahili (may Allah be pleased with him) sitting, removing lice and burying the lice in the ground. I sat with him. He said Subhan Allah three times, al-Hamdu lillah three times and Allahu Akbar three times, then he said: These are words that are light on the tongue and will be heavy in the Scale, and they ascend to the Most Merciful. I said: "O Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him)! I am a man who lives in the countryside; the zakah collectors come to us and wrong us." Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Charity is a right, and those who pursue it (wrongfully) will go to Hell; this is established by the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), whether they fall short in it or exceed the limit. Bring the wealth and do not conceal anything of it, for then you would make impure both what you conceal and what you bring. And when you see them (wronging you), do not revile them, but seek refuge in Allah from their evil.
