Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 4460

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a man to collect zakah; his name was Ibn al-Lutbiyyah. He collected the zakah, then returned to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! I committed no wrong, nor did I neglect any right of those people; however, something was given to me as a gift, so I accepted the gift." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sat on the pulpit and said: "I send some people to collect zakah; then one of them comes and says: 'By Allah! I committed no wrong, nor did I leave any of their rights; however, a gift was given to me, so I accepted the gift.' Why did that man not stay sitting in his mother's house, so that he could see who gives him a gift? Beware lest any one of you comes (on the Day of Resurrection) in such a state that on his neck is a camel that is making noise, or a cow that is lowing, or a goat that is bleating." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) raised both his hands until the whiteness of his (peace and blessings be upon him) armpits became visible, then he said: "O Allah! Have I conveyed the message?"
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator, Ibrahim bin Isma'il bin Abi Hanifah, who is da'if (weak).
