Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 4458

Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I hold you by your waistbands to stop you from going into the Fire, saying: 'Save yourselves from the Fire, save yourselves from the Fire!' But you break out of my grip and try to fall into it, just as moths and insects (fall into fire). Soon I will let go of your waistbands (that is, you will slip from my hand). I will be your forerunner at the Pond, and you will come to me together and in separate groups. I will recognise you by your distinctive mark, and I will know your names just as a man recognises a strange camel among his own camels. They will take you to the left, and I will plead for you before the Lord of all the worlds. I will say: 'O my Lord! These are my people! O my Lord! This is my Ummah!' Then Allah Almighty will say: 'O Muhammad! Do you not know what changes they made after you? These people turned back on their heels after you.' (The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:) On the Day of Resurrection, let me certainly not find any one of you in such a state that he is carrying a goat that is bleating, and he calls out: 'O Sayyiduna Muhammad! O Sayyiduna Muhammad! (Help me!)' and I say: 'I cannot be of any use to you; I conveyed the message to you.' And on the Day of Resurrection, let me not find any one of you in such a state that he is carrying a camel that is making noise, and that man says: 'O Sayyiduna Muhammad! O Sayyiduna Muhammad! (Help me!)' and I say: 'I cannot be of any use to you; I conveyed the message to you.' And let me certainly not find any one of you in such a state that when he comes on the Day of Resurrection, he is carrying a horse that is neighing, and that man calls out: 'O Sayyiduna Muhammad! O Sayyiduna Muhammad!' and I say: 'I cannot be of any use to you; I conveyed the message to you.' Let me certainly not find any one of you on the Day of Resurrection in such a state that he is carrying a leather waterskin and calling out: 'O Sayyiduna Muhammad! O Sayyiduna Muhammad!' and I say: 'I cannot be of any use to you; I conveyed the message to you.'"
Abu Ya'la (perhaps the correct word is al-Tabarani) recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and al-Bazzar recorded it, though he narrated the word "qash'" in place of the word "siqa'" (waterskin); and all its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
