Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Iblis said to his Lord: O my Lord, You are (sending) Sayyiduna Adam (peace be upon him) (down to the earth). I know that soon there will be books and messengers. What will be their (that is, the children of Adam's) books and messengers? Allah Almighty said: Their messengers will be angels, and among those messengers there will also be prophets; their books will be the Torah, the Injil, the Zabur and the Furqan (that is, the Qur'an). Iblis asked: What will be my book? The Lord said: Your book will be tattooing; your Qur'an will be poetry; your messengers will be soothsayers; your food will be everything over which the name of Allah has not been mentioned; your drink will be every intoxicant; your truth will be lying; your house will be the bathhouse; your snares will be women; your callers will be musical instruments; and your mosques will be the markets."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains Yahya bin Salih al-Ayli, whom al-Uqayli declared da'if (weak). (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: The hadith reported from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him), which is similar to this or more complete, will come at the end of the Book of Manners, in the chapter on poetry, in sha' Allah.
