Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We set out with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to take part in a military expedition. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered the caller, and he announced: "Whoever among us has a weak mount should go back." So people began to go back, until they reached a narrow place on the road, where a man's she-camel threw him down, and as a result the man died. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw this situation, he called out loudly to the Muslims, and some people came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "What is the matter with you?" (The narrator is unsure, or perhaps the words were:) "What has held you back?" The people said: "O Messenger of Allah! So-and-so reached the narrow place, and his she-camel threw him down, and as a result he died." The people requested the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to lead his funeral prayer, but he did not accept. He ordered the caller, and he announced loudly: "Paradise is not lawful for a disobedient person. Beware! Domestic donkeys are unlawful, and (eating the meat of) every beast of prey with fangs (the narrator is unsure, perhaps the words are:) every beast of prey with claws is unlawful."
Imam Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator, Layth bin Abi Sulaym, and he is a mudallis (one who conceals defects in the chain), but he is thiqah (trustworthy).
