Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by (the chief of the hypocrites) Abdullah bin Ubayy bin Salul, who was sitting in the shade. He said: O son of Abu Kabshah, you have thrown dust on us. (Later) his son, Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) (who was a Companion of the Messenger), said (to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)): By the One who has honoured you and revealed the Book to you, if you wish, I will bring you his head (that is, the head of his own father, Abdullah bin Ubayy bin Salul). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No. Treat your father with kindness and keep good company with him.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and he said: Zayd bin Bishr al-Hadrami is alone in narrating it. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Ibn Hibban declared him thiqah (trustworthy), and the remaining narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).
