وَعَنْ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ أَنَّهُ شَهِدَ النَّبِيَّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - عَلَى مَيِّتٍ قَالَ : فَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ : " اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِحَيِّنَا وَمَيِّتِنَا ، وَشَاهِدِنَا وَغَائِبِنَا ، وَصَغِيرِنَا وَكَبِيرِنَا ، وَذَكَرِنَا وَأُنْثَانَا " . وَزَادَ أَبُو سَلَمَةَ : " مَنْ أَحْيَيْتَهُ مِنَّا فَأَحْيِهِ عَلَى الْإِسْلَامِ ، وَمَنْ تَوَفَّيْتَهُ مِنَّا فَتَوَفَّهُ عَلَى الْإِيمَانِ " .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ ، وَرِجَالُهُ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .

Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that he was present with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at a funeral prayer. He says: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicate: "O Allah, forgive our living and our dead, those of us present and those of us absent, our young and our old, our men and our women." The narrator Abu Salamah added these words: "Whomever of us You keep alive, keep him alive upon Islam, and whomever of us You cause to die, cause him to die upon faith."
