Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: On the day of the Battle of Uhud, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by (the body of) Sayyiduna Hamzah (may Allah be pleased with him); his nose had been cut off and his body had been mutilated. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Were it not that Sayyidah Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) would be distressed, I would have left him as he is, until Allah Almighty raised him on the Day of Gathering from the bellies of the wild beasts and the birds." He was shrouded in a single sheet; when his head was covered his feet would be exposed, and when his feet were covered his head would be exposed, so the people covered his head.
Abu Ya'la recorded it. Abu Dawud recorded part of it, without mention of the shroud. Its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
