Sayyiduna Sa'id bin Ubayd (may Allah be pleased with him), who was called 'the Qari' in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), faced an enemy, and the enemy forced them to retreat. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: "Would you like to go to Syria? Perhaps Allah Almighty will show you favour." He said: "No! I would like to go to the very enemy from whom I fled." The narrator says: Then at al-Qadisiyyah he addressed the people, saying: "Tomorrow, if Allah wills, we will face the enemy and we will attain martyrdom. Do not wash our blood off us, and shroud us only in the cloth that will be on our bodies."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
