Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 4025

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when he was visiting Sayyiduna Abu Salamah (may Allah be pleased with him), who was in pain. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) heard the voice of Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), who was weeping. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) heard Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) weeping as she recited this verse of the Book of Allah: "And the stupor of death has come in truth; that is what you used to flee from," the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) held back. Then he went in, then he gave the greeting of salam, then he said: "O Umm Salamah, may Allah Almighty grant you something better in its place." When he left, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was with him. He said: "O Messenger of Allah! I saw that you disliked going in because they were wailing." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I do not enter a house in which there is wailing or a black dog."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains Ayyub bin Nahik, whom a group declared da'if (weak). Ibn Hibban declared him thiqah (trustworthy) and said: "He makes mistakes."
