Sayyiduna Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "In this world there is regret only over three things. A man has a water-skin and a water-carrying camel, and he loads water on it and goes to his land. When the thirst of his land has grown severe and its fruit is about to come out, his water-carrying camel dies. He then feels regret over that camel, knowing that he will not now be able to water it in that way, and he feels regret over the fruit of his land, that it will be ruined before he can find some other means. Or a man is mounted on his swift horse and meets an army of disbelievers. When he draws near to them, the enemies of Allah flee and the man is left on his horse. Just as he is about to reach the enemy, his horse's leg breaks and he is left standing beside it. He will never again find anything like the regret he feels over his horse, and he also feels regret that the victory which had come right before him has slipped away from him. Or a man has a wife with whose appearance and religion he is pleased. She gives birth to a child and dies after giving birth. He feels regret over his wife, thinking that he will never find another wife like her, and he also feels regret over his child, fearing that the child too may perish before he can arrange a wet-nurse." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "And this is the greatest of those regrets."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Kabir, and he recorded a similar narration in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat.
Al-Bazzar also recorded it. In some narrations the words are: "The most severe regrets of the children of Adam are three: a man who has a beautiful and lovely wife" — after which the narrator related something similar in abridged form.
This narration has two chains, one of which is hasan (good); it contains no (weak) narrator other than Sa'id bin Bashir, and he too has been declared trustworthy.
