Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 3996

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: A man from the Ansar had a son, and whenever that man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the child would come with him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked the man: "Do you love this child?" He said: "O Prophet of Allah! Yes. May Allah Almighty love you as I love him." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah Almighty loves me more than you love him." Some time later the child died. The man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), whereas before he used to bring his son with him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Did you grieve and lament?" He said: "Yes." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Are you not pleased that your son should be with my son Ibrahim, playing with him beneath the shade of the Throne?" The man said: "Yes indeed, O Messenger of Allah!"
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir as a narration of Ibrahim bin Ubayd from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both). If this narrator named Ibrahim is Ibrahim bin Ubayd bin Rifa'ah, then he is one of the narrators of the Sahih, and it appears that it is him, because I did not find anyone among the Tabi'un named Ibrahim bin Ubayd. This narrator is da'if (weak), and the rest of its narrators have been declared trustworthy.
