Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When a son of Sayyiduna Adam (peace be upon him) died, Sayyiduna Adam (peace be upon him) said to his wife, Sayyidah Hawwa (may Allah be pleased with her): 'Your son has died.' She asked: 'What is death?' Sayyiduna Adam (peace be upon him) said: 'Now he will neither eat, nor drink, nor grasp, nor walk.' When Sayyiduna Adam (peace be upon him) said this, Sayyidah Hawwa (may Allah be pleased with her) let out a scream. Sayyiduna Adam (peace be upon him) said: 'Now wailing is laid upon you and your daughters, and I and my sons will be free of it.' So after that, women weep and beat themselves (excessively over a deceased person)."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains a narrator, al-Husayn bin Sayyar, and he is matruk (abandoned).
