Abu Ubaydah bin Hudhayfah narrates from his paternal aunt Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: We, some women, came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to visit him in his illness. A waterskin had been hung near him, from which drops of water were dripping onto him, (to relieve) the heat of fever he was feeling. We said: "O Messenger of Allah! If you were to supplicate to Allah Almighty, He would grant you cure." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Among people, the ones who face the most severe trial are the Prophets, then after them those who come next to them (the more righteous people), then after that those who come next to them, then after that those who come next to them (that is, the more righteous people have to face this)."
Ahmad recorded it. Tabarani recorded something similar in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and in it he recorded these words: "We, the company of Prophets, have to face a doubled trial." The chain of Ahmad is hasan (good).
