Masruq says: After Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) had got up, we would remain sitting after him; some people would remain occupied with recitation, and then when we got up, we would begin to perform voluntary prayers. When news of this reached him and we came to him, he said: "Are you loading upon people a burden that Allah Almighty has not placed upon them? You perform (voluntary) prayer in such a way that the people think it is obligatory upon them. If you must do this, then do it in your homes (that is, perform voluntary prayers in your homes)."
This narration was recorded by Imam al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators are the narrators of the "Sahih".
