Sa'id bin al-Musayyab states: Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) came into the presence of Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), and Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said to him: "Were you not afraid that I might have kept a man seated (hidden in my house) for you, who would kill you?" Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "You would not do that; I am in a house of safety, and I have heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say something." (The narrator states:) What Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) meant was this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Faith is a shackle against treacherous attack." (Then Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) asked Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her):) "How am I with regard to (what is between us) serving you and fulfilling your needs?" Sayyidah Aishah replied: "You are good!" Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Then leave me and those people (to our affairs) until we present ourselves before our Lord."
Imam Ahmad and al-Tabarani (in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir) recorded it; however, al-Tabarani reported these words: It is from Sa'id bin al-Musayyab, from Marwan, who states: "I went with Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) into the presence of Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her)."
The chain of this narration contains a narrator, Ali bin Zayd, and he is da'if (weak).
