Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 325

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A person is not a complete believer until he gives up lying, even in jest, and arguing, even if he is truthful (that is, in the right in the argument)."
Imam Ahmad and al-Tabarani (in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat) recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Mansur bin Udhayn, and I have not seen anyone mention him.
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Other hadiths on this topic will come later, some of them in the chapter on knowledge and some in the chapter on manners, if Allah wills.
