Kurdus narrates: Al-Walid sent word to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Abu Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) after evening had fallen. He said: Now the Eid of the Muslims has come, so how is the prayer to be offered? Those men said: Ask Abu Abd al-Rahman (that is, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him))! So he asked him, and Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: He will stand and say four takbirs, then recite Surah al-Fatihah and a surah from the Mufassal surahs, then say four takbirs, with the last of which he will go into ruku'. So these will be nine takbirs in the two Eids. And not one of those men objected to it.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators have been declared trustworthy.
