Sayyiduna Abu Waqid al-Laythi (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyidah Aishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrate: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led the people in the Eid prayer on the day of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, he said seven takbirs in the first rak'ah and recited Surah Qaf, and in the second rak'ah he said five takbirs and recited Surah Iqtarabat al-Sa'ah.
(Allamah Haythami says:) I say: The hadith narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Waqid (may Allah be pleased with him) is in the Sahih; in it the recitation is mentioned but not the takbir. The hadith narrated from Sayyidah Aishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) was recorded by Abu Dawud and others, and they did not mention the recitation.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Ibn Lahi'ah, about whom there has been criticism.
