Mujahid reported about Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): He said to me: Love for the sake of Allah Almighty! Hate for the sake of Allah Almighty, befriend for the sake of Allah Almighty, and take as enemy for the sake of Allah Almighty, for the friendship (wilayah) of Allah Almighty can be reached only through this (deed). And however much a man may have prayed and fasted, he cannot find the taste of faith until he becomes like this. The brotherhood of people has come to be over worldly matters.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Layth bin Abi Sulaym, whom most (scholars) declared da'if (weak). Before this, the hadith of Sayyiduna Amr bin al-Hamiq (may Allah be pleased with him) has already passed, concerning the person who becomes angry for the sake of Allah Almighty and is pleased for the sake of Allah Almighty.
