Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering the sermon on Friday. Meanwhile a man entered (the mosque) and came forward stepping over the necks of the people. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "One of you comes late, then steps over the necks of the people and causes them harm." The man said: As soon as I heard the call to prayer (adhan), I did nothing else except perform ablution (and came). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Is it a day for only ablution?"
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains a narrator, Amr bin al-Walid al-Sahmi. Imam al-Nasa'i (may Allah have mercy on him) said: He is not strong. Imam Ibn Hibban (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned him in the book "al-Thiqat", and the rest of the narrators of this narration are thiqat (trustworthy).
