Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 307

Sayyiduna Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) states: Once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came out to us and said: "Do you know which deed is most beloved to Allah Almighty?" Someone said: "Prayer and zakah." Someone said: "Jihad." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The deed most beloved to Allah Almighty is to love someone for the sake of Allah Almighty and to hate someone for the sake of Allah Almighty."
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Imam Abu Dawud recorded a part of this narration.
Imam Ahmad recorded it; its chain contains a person whose name has not been mentioned.
