Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 2975

Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: On the expedition of Tabuk we set out, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would offer the Zuhr and Asr prayers together: he would offer Zuhr at the end of its time and Asr at the beginning of its time, then he would set off. He would offer the Maghrib prayer when its time was about to end and the twilight had not yet disappeared, and he would offer the Isha prayer at the beginning of its time, when the twilight had disappeared. When we drew near (to Tabuk), he said: "If Allah wills, tomorrow we will reach Tabuk; let no one reach the water before us." Sayyiduna Mu'adh said: I was the first person to reach the water, but two men had already reached the water before that; they had filled the waterskins they had with them, and the water had become muddy. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came and said: "Did I not forbid you that anyone should reach the water before us?" Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had the two waterskins brought, and their water was poured into the water (of the spring). Then he supplicated to Allah Almighty, and the water gushed forth. He said: "O Mu'adh, if your life is long, you will see that many gardens will have grown up here (watered by this water)." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say:
This narration is in the Sahih and in other books without this wording.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and he said: From Ibn Thawban, only Ghusn bin Isma'il narrated it, and the narrator Muhammad bin Ghalib is alone in reporting it. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: I have not found anyone who mentions this person named Ghusn.
