Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 2895

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went to visit a sick man from among his Companions, and I was with him. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) reached that man, he was praying with the support of a piece of wood, placing his forehead on the wood. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gestured to him, so he put the wood aside; then he took a pillow. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "Leave it. If you are able to prostrate on the ground, that is fine; otherwise, make gestures, and bend lower in prostration than in bowing."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains Hafs bin Sulayman al-Minqari, who is matruk (abandoned). Different reports are transmitted from Imam Ahmad about his trustworthiness; the correct report is that he declared him da'if (weak), and Allah knows best. Ibn Hibban mentioned him in the book al-Thiqat.
