Bistam narrated from a Bedouin who stayed with them as a guest that this Bedouin had prayed behind the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the salam twice (that is, on both sides).
Ahmad recorded it. This narrator named Bistam is Bistam bin al-Nadr; Ustadh Jamal al-Din al-Mizzi mentioned him thus in the biography of his student Amr bin Farrukh. Al-Sharif al-Husayni thought that he was perhaps Bistam bin Muslim, so he did not mention him; and Allah knows best. The remaining narrators of this narration are thiqat (trustworthy). Ibn Hibban mentioned Bistam bin al-Nadr in the book al-Thiqat, and he mentioned this narration of his from the Bedouin just as it is mentioned here.
