Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 2478

Sayyiduna Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) states: I asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about smoothing the pebbles with the hand (meaning, doing so during the prayer), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The hand may be passed over them once. (Allamah Haythami says:) I say: From this Companion, a hadith is recorded in the Sunan forbidding smoothing the pebbles.
Bazzar recorded it; its chain contains Muhammad bin Abi Layla, and there is weakness in his hadith.
