Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "When a man purifies himself (that is, performs ablution), then comes to the mosque, attentive to the prayer, his two recorders (that is, the angels; the narrator is unsure about a word here) write for him ten good deeds for every step he takes." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also said: "The one who sits waiting for the prayer is like the one who stands in prayer, and he is counted among those praying from the time he leaves his house until he returns to it."
Ahmad and Abu Ya'la recorded it, and Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Some of its chains contain Ibn Lahi'ah, and some of its chains are sahih (authentic); al-Hakim (may Allah have mercy on him) declared this hadith sahih (authentic).
