Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 1857

It is reported about Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) that when giving the adhan for the morning prayer he used to say, "Come to the best of deeds." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered him to put in its place the words, "Prayer is better than sleep." So he stopped saying "Hayya 'ala khayr al-'amal (Come to the best of deeds)."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator, Abd al-Rahman, who has been mentioned before; Yahya bin Ma'in declared him da'if (weak).
