It is reported about Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) that he used to give the adhan for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and in the adhan he would say: "Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar (Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest), Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah, ashhadu an la ilaha illallah (I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, I bear witness that there is no god but Allah)." Then he would turn from the qiblah to the right and say: "Ashhadu anna Muhammadan rasulullah, ashhadu anna Muhammadan rasulullah (I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah)." Then he would turn and face the direction behind the qiblah and say "Hayya 'ala al-salah, hayya 'ala al-salah (Come to prayer, come to prayer)." Then he would turn to the left and say "Hayya 'ala al-falah, hayya 'ala al-falah (Come to success, come to success)." Then he would face the qiblah and say "Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar" and "La ilaha illallah (there is no god but Allah)." He used to give the iqamah for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), saying the words of the iqamah singly. He would say: "Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, ashhadu an la ilaha illallah, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan rasulullah, hayya 'ala al-salah, hayya 'ala al-falah, qad qamat al-salah (the prayer has been established)," which he would say twice, then (he would say) "Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, la ilaha illallah."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator, Abd al-Rahman bin Ammar bin Sa'd, whom Yahya bin Ma'in declared da'if (weak).
