بَابٌ : لَيْسَ أَحَدٌ يُنْجِيهِ عَمَلُهُ .
No one's deeds will save him

وَعَنْهُ أَيْضًا قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " لَنْ يُنْجِيَ أَحَدًا عَمَلُهُ " . قَالُوا : وَلَا أَنْتَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ؟ ! قَالَ : " وَلَا أَنَا ، إِلَّا أَنْ يَتَغَمَّدَنِي اللَّهُ بِرَحْمَةٍ مِنْهُ وَفَضْلٍ ، وَلَوْ يُؤَاخِذُنِي أَنَا وَعِيسَى بِمَا جَنَى هَذَانِ لَأَوْبَقَنَا " . وَأَشَارَ بِالسَّبَّابَةِ وَالْوُسْطَى . قُلْتُ : هُوَ فِي الصَّحِيحِ غَيْرَ مِنْ قَوْلِهِ : " وَلَوْ يُؤَاخِذُنِي " . رَوَاهُ الْبَزَّارُ ، وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ ، إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " وَلَوْ يُؤَاخِذُنِي بِمَا جَنَى هَؤُلَاءِ لَأَوْبَقَنِي " . وَشَيْخُ الْبَزَّارِ أَبُو بَكْرٍ لَمْ أَعْرِفْهُ ، وَكَأَنَّهُ وَرَّاقُ ابْنُ أَبِي الدُّنْيَا ، فَإِنَّهُ رَوَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ زَنْجَوَيْهِ ، وَشَيْخُ الطَّبَرَانِيِّ : إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ ذَكْوَانَ بْنِ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ الْقَيْصَرَانِيُّ لَمْ أَجِدْ مَنْ تَرْجَمَهُ ، وَبَقِيَّةُ رِجَالِهِمَا رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ غَيْرَ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ زَنْجَوَيْهِ ، وَهُوَ ثِقَةٌ .
It is narrated from the same Companion that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No one will be saved by his deeds." The people said: "O Messenger of Allah! Not even you?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Not even I, except that Allah Almighty has covered me with His special mercy and grace. If He were to hold me and Sayyiduna Isa (peace be upon him) accountable for what these two (fingers) have committed, He would destroy us." The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) (said this) while pointing with the index finger and the middle finger. (Allamah Haythami says:) I say:
This narration is mentioned in the Sahih, but without the words: "If He were to hold me accountable."
Imam al-Bazzar and Imam al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat recorded it, but he recorded these words: "If He were to hold me accountable for what these have committed, He would destroy me." I do not know Imam al-Bazzar's teacher Abu Bakr; perhaps he is the scribe (warraq) of Ibn Abi al-Dunya, since he narrated from Muhammad bin Abd al-Malik bin Zanjawayh. Likewise, I have not found anyone who wrote a biography of Imam al-Tabarani's teacher Ibrahim bin Mu'awiyah bin Dhakwan bin Abi Sufyan al-Qaysarani. The rest of the narrators of both are the narrators of the Sahih, except Muhammad bin Abd al-Malik bin Zanjawayh, who is thiqah (trustworthy).
