Sayyiduna Wathilah bin al-Asqa' (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "On the Day of Resurrection Allah Almighty will raise a servant who has no sin. Allah Almighty will say: 'Which of the two matters is more beloved to you: that I reward you for your deeds, or (that I take account of) the blessings I granted you?' The servant will say: 'O my Lord, You know that I never disobeyed You.' The Lord will say: 'Seize My servant for the reckoning of one of My blessings (or: take his account).' Then that one blessing alone will wipe out all his good deeds. The servant will say: 'O my Lord, Your blessing and Your mercy (are what I need and seek).' The Lord will say: 'My blessing and My mercy (by means of which you will be saved).' Then a servant will be brought who thinks that he is a doer of good and has no sin. The Lord will ask him: 'Did you have love for My friends?' He will reply: 'I remained at peace with people (that is, I kept apart from them).' The Lord will ask: 'Did you have enmity for My enemies?' That servant will reply: 'O my Lord, there was no (enmity) between me and anyone.' The Lord will say: 'My mercy will not reach a person who does not love My friends and does not have enmity for My enemies.'"
Tabarani recorded this narration; its chain contains Bishr bin Awn, who is accused of fabricating narrations.
